Antioxidants

Antioxidants help protect the body from the formation of free radicals. Free racials are atoms or groups of atoms with an odd (unpaired) number that can cause damage to the body cells, impairing the immune system, leading to infections and various diseases. Free radical scavengers control free radical by neutralizing them. The group of antioxidant that help fight the free radicals come from vitamins, minerals and enzyme; such as vitamins A, E, C, the mineral selenium and other nutritents.

The Acai Berry

The acai berry is a small (grape size) fruit that is mainly found in the Brazilian rain forest. The acai has been studied and has been found to be one of the strongest antioxidants available. One of the first companies to take advantage of the health benefits has been Mona Vie.

In just a few years the benefits of the acai berry have been really researched and understood.

The acai berry boosts energy, improves mental clarity, a free radical fighter, high in fiber, improves digestion, strengthens the immune system, fights cancerous cells, slows the again process, help with diabetes (contains less than 5 grams of sugar per serving), normalizes cholesterol levels, improves circulation, minimized inflammation.

Understanding Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha Lipoic Acid helps neutralize free radicals in the body and protect cells from damage. Alpha Lipoic Acid can be found in very small amounts in foods such as veggies (spinach, broccoli, peas, Brewer's yeast, brussel sprouts), rice bran, and meats.

For diabetes Alpha Lipoic Acid has the ability to normalize glucose uptake and utilization. For people that are diabetic, doctor's recommend that they eat smaller meals through the day to stabilise there sugar levels, thus Lipoic Acid will be of great benefit to them.

Group of Antioxidants

Vitamin A, promotes germ-killing enzymes and is necessary for healthy mucous. Beta-carotene together with Vitamin A destroy carcinogens (cancer-producing substances).

Vitamin C, reduces lipid production in the brain and spinal cord. These areas can be protected by significant amounts of vitamin C, which is needed to cross the blood-brain barrier. Vitamin C works best as a free racical scavenger when it's combined with a bioflavonoid called hesperidin.

Vitamin E, prevents fat and cell membrane rancidity and protects the coating around each cell. Vitamin E improves oxygen utilization and enhances immune response.

L-Cysteine, it is used by the liver and the lymphocytes to detoxify chemicals and germ poisons. Cysteine is a powerful detoxifier of alcohol, tobacco smoke, and enviromental pollutants, all of which supprese the immune system.

L-Glutathione, this antioxidants rids the body of free radicals, protecting it from harmful effects of metals, drugs, cigarette smoke, and alcohol.
